A green thumb yet?

All day today since morning till evening I have been gardening or working in the yard. I planted quite a few delphiniums, (my favorite flower, or one of them rather) A fox glove,
several rows of salvia, and two mexican somethings. Soon I'll start my vegetable/fruit garden.
Yesterday while planting my strawberry plants, Grandaddy (A swell gardener himself) walks up to me and says in his sweet grandfather voice "Mary-John, whatcha' got planted there?" "Strawberry plants, Grandaddy." "Oh really?" " Yes sir." Well then of course he goes into giving me an interesting lecture on how to do this and how to do that when it comes to planting strawberry's. He also told me about his 400 plants and his rows and rows of strawberry's he has set out. He then looked up and saw my Watermelon plants and proceeded to inquire about them as well. As soon as I told him they were watermelons he softly chuckled and said again, "Oh really?" "Well I'll be darned." And then he walked off and tended to his buisness.
I will never forget what my Grandmother said once while planting tulips with me and Peachy-Keen. She leaned over the unplanted flowers and quietly said how she wished she could do as much as she used to when she worked in her garden. After that she looked at Peachy-Keen and me and said "You know, I just never felt so close to God as when I'm in a garden."
I really like that. Think about it.
