well, enough that they're close together and compact to an extent. For it to be considered compact and dense, it would have to take quite a few. I don't think there really is a set number. I guess I could always go ask one of the Biology profs.
I guess it's kinda like the question "how many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Roll Pop?" I'm thinking most likely it takes fewer trees to make a forest than it does licks to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Roll Pop.
Does my third go help any, or did I just strike out?:D
Ah! Here's a good one! It is not a wood until it is large enough to scare Macbeth! "Macbeth shall not be vanquished until Great Birnam wood to high Dunsinane hill shall come against him."
Natalie- and where was this? i certainly have not seen a PB blog (or blawg) with that many? (I dont know if spam by the blog creator would count either).
MJ- well it was on Tyler Poe's old blog that i saw the 31, it couldve been higher, i dont remember. but anyway i think this post will be setting the record to beat soon enough, for comments on a PB blog (or blawg).
According to Robert Louis Stevenson: "It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit."
Marvin Harris reccomends the forest for pigs: "The pig is a creature of woodland and glens and riverbanks; it does best when it forages on the forest floor, rooting up everything that has fallen off trees - acorns, different mushrooms, things of that sort."
While P. B. S. Pinchback prefers to think of it metaphorically: "I am groping about through this American forest of prejudice and proscription, determined to find some form of civilization where all men will be accepted for what they are worth." Keep groping Pinchback...at least it keeps you busy.
Chris Patten seems to take the enviromentalists view of things: "A lot of concern has been expressed about the destruction of the Amazonian rain forest, and that concern is wholly understandable. About 60 percent of the total of tropical rain forest left in the world is in the Amazon." Tut tut.
Peter Benchley tends to be rather morbid in his views: "If man doesn't learn to treat the oceans and the rain forest with respect, man will become extinct."
Rick Schroder...what can I say? He seems willing to make quite a noble sacrifice: "If I weren't an actor, I'd be a wildlife biologist or forest ranger."
Susan George takes the emotional approch and stabs you right in the heart with her simple but profound statement: "If you cut down a forest, it doesn't matter how many sawmills you have if there are no more trees."
And now, having added 7 comments to make an even 40, I shall retire. This study of forests has proved most interesting and enlightening.
lol, i interrupted your little comment thing there. anyway you or anyone else want a drink? i'm buying. celebrating the 40 comment (or now i guess its 41) post.
I can't help but point out in a very happy and contented sort of way that in this extensive collection of comments, every avatar pic except for two were created by my very own sweet camera.
Funnity fun. Oh how I love my toy. No no, not quite right... I believe the preacher man said I'm supposed to say that I like my toy but I love all of you. Yeah, that's it.
I would like to thank all commenters...that didn't help at all...but then again I didn't really expect it to...I'll have to come up with another thought.
i am curious as to which two pics came from somewhere other than Queen Shenaynay's camera. at first i was thinking mine is obviously one of them, but then again my pic was taken from Andrew's blog, and i have no clue what camera he used. so anyway my guesses would have to be Justin's and my avatars.
If we don't know how many trees it takes to make a forest, can we determine if when a tree falls in a forest, does it make a sound? Because, it might depend on the number of trees...
who said that man was wrong in the first place??? I'd go with the Biblical answer and have the woman learn in silence how our way of doing things is quicker... now in the longer run it may not be "more efficient"... but in the here and now... we have the plan... let's stick to it!!
So in conclusion, if the number of trees in a forest=the number of comments on this post, then the number of trees in a forest is infinite. Ha ha I figured it out.
STOP THE MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This day is called the feast of Crispian: He that outlives this day, and comes safe home, will stand a tip-toe when this day is named, and rouse him at the name of Crispian. He that shall see this day and live old age, will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours, and say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispin's: Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars, and say 'These wounds I had on Crispin's day.'
Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot, but he'll remember with advantages what feats he did that day. Then shall our names, familiar in their mouths as household words, Harry the king, Bedford and Exeter, Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester, Be in their flowing cups freshly remember'd. This story shall the good man teach his son; And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by, from this day to the ending of the world, but we in it shall be remember'd; We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; for he to-day that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, this day shall gentle his condition: And gentlemen in England now a-bed shall think themselves accursed they were not here, and hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks that fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
funny thing is I dont even know the people who runs this blog. Well I think I did meet MJ at the meeting a few weeks ago, but I dont know who peachy-keen is?
Sweet McGee! 93! This is indeed The Forest of Awesomeness. What a great idea; a Forest of Friends. I vote that Peachy-Keen write the 100th post and tell us what she finally decided was the answer to her question that we all so graciously enlightened her on.
I would like to say that all of this has been very enlightening. I have decided that I think that what makes a forest is when there are so many trees that they no longer become individual trees...they become a whole...a forest.

Alot doesn't count!
Nuts!
well, according to ZolaOnAOL, (the dumb robot) 23.
I think it has to be enough so that you can't see through to the other side.
Enough that you can't see the trees for it.
Enough that you get scared.
Enough that it's really green...yeah.
All of y'all took the really good ones! :(
exactly 72.
Depending on the size you want, the amount can differ but most have to have at least 72 trees.
According to the invaluable dictionary.com, it just has to be a dense growth of trees to be called a forest.:D
my question is though, cpuaggie, what amount is a dense growth of trees...
well, enough that they're close together and compact to an extent. For it to be considered compact and dense, it would have to take quite a few. I don't think there really is a set number. I guess I could always go ask one of the Biology profs.
I think 4. 1 is a solitary tree, 2 is a couple, 3 is a crowd and 4 is a forest.
hmm...
i still say 72
no mister-doctor-know-it-all. It's 73.
It all depends on if it is a european forest or african forest
73 for african. I was talking about a european forest :)

I guess no one will ever know.

I am just posting here because its funny to see a post with an almost record breaking 24 comments (record among blawgs [or blogs] i've seen is 31).
I have seen a post on a blog with 419 comments.
Ok, well in that case, everyone help us beat the record of 31. if you wanna
YEAH!!!!
Natalie- and where was this? i certainly have not seen a PB blog (or blawg) with that many? (I dont know if spam by the blog creator would count either).

The Beehive record is 34 comments. July 2005, a post on... flip flops.
Oddly enough, I seem to recall that our second place comment winner was also about shoes.
While we're on this comment frenzy perhaps I might add a few sage words of wisdom concerning forests by a few sage...people.
Im number 31!! And the blog I saw 419 comments on was not a PB blog. It was the one I posted about on my blog at twochineseboys.blogspot.com.

uhh yea...
well anyway, 36 comments!!! i believe that is a new record for American blogs (or blawgs), at least the ones anybody here has seen. ;)
Time to CELEBRATE!!!! drinks are on me!!! ;) :D

I'll take mine shaken not stirred.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! 43 comments!!!!!MY GOSH!!!!
I think it's funny how everbody stopped posting about the actual question about 20 comments back.
I thought we were talking about trees.
Natalie- *tosses your "shaken" milkshake (hope thats what you wanted...)
Kaity- sure is, thanks for sparing me a few bucks and not ordering a celebration drink.
Roy- after 30 or so posts things tend to get a little off track as you can see...
I can't help but point out in a very happy and contented sort of way that in this extensive collection of comments, every avatar pic except for two were created by my very own sweet camera.

No Joe, your pic was taken with my camera.
Laura's wasn't, and Justin's wasn't.
Thirty-seven
If we don't know how many trees it takes to make a forest, can we determine if when a tree falls in a forest, does it make a sound? Because, it might depend on the number of trees...
Yeah...
The madness continues. :-)
53 comments? Am I 54? Sheesh!
It makes a sound because God hears it.
Aha, but if a man makes a statement in the depths of a dark forest and there is no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong?
no because there's no woman around to argue with him for hours about his answer, force him to change it, and then make him wrong.
There are way too many comments for this one post! Can I have some?
who said that man was wrong in the first place??? I'd go with the Biblical answer and have the woman learn in silence how our way of doing things is quicker... now in the longer run it may not be "more efficient"... but in the here and now... we have the plan... let's stick to it!!
We are certainly getting off topic..... I'm 60!!!
Yes, he is wrong. Because, if he is in the depths of a dark forest, he is probably lost, and is refusing to ask for directions. Hahaha.
Trees are green
Except for when they aren't.
They shouldn't be green now
Seeing as it's January and all
But this IS Texas
(God Bless it!)
So despite the cultural norms
the trees are green. For the most part anyway.
How sad.
Wow, Fa. That's a whole forest of hippopatami.
# of trees it takes to make a forest = # of comments on this post.
So in conclusion, if the number of trees in a forest=the number of comments on this post, then the number of trees in a forest is infinite. Ha ha I figured it out.
If infinite...then we must keep posting.
forever, and ever, and ever, and ever...
Let's make it a ginormous forest!
(Great answer Laura! He's lost, of course!:))
STOP THE MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the land where I was born,
Lived a man who sailed the sea.
And he told me of his love,
For a yellow submarine...

I think we should shoot for 100, just to say we hit triple digits.
Oh Claire, that piece gives me chill bumps every time I read it.
80!!!
100 sounds good!
w00h00 there is now 81 trees in the forest.
This is perhaps the most beautiful forest I have ever seen, btw. We should give it a name...
this is silly. but why else would we do it?
If this forest, like these comments are made up of the people I love the best, then it is indeed a very beautiful forest.
funny thing is I dont even know the people who runs this blog. Well I think I did meet MJ at the meeting a few weeks ago, but I dont know who peachy-keen is?
This should be called the Forest of Awesomeness since all of us are in it.
Ok, people
let's shoot for
100!!!!!!!!!
hey, look what time it is...should say something like 2:20...AM! Oh my goodness...and still a little further to go...school-wise that is.
I'm glad this is a nice, awesome forest, otherwise, treading into it around 2am wouldn't be that safe. :-)
Only 8 more!!!!
Sweet McGee! 93!
This is indeed The Forest of Awesomeness. What a great idea; a Forest of Friends.
I vote that Peachy-Keen write the 100th post and tell us what she finally decided was the answer to her question that we all so graciously enlightened her on.
95 STRONG BABY!! With just a few more we can apply for the title "Cedars of Lebanon" and then challenge the Ints for forrestry domination!!
96 trees in the ever-thickening forest...
and btw who is Peachy-keen?
wow! I think I'm 98...and this happens to be my first post on this blog! I get to be in the cool people forest! Yay!
ok, I have the 99th comment. Maggie shall have the 100th. After that, it all ends. It's been fun, it's been real, it's been real fun.
99 comments on blog m&m....99 comments we have......take one down pass it around, 99 comments on blog m&m!
OK...the 100th comment...WOW!
I would like to say that all of this has been very enlightening. I have decided that I think that what makes a forest is when there are so many trees that they no longer become individual trees...they become a whole...a forest.
Can I just annoy
peachy-keen
by commenting even more?
