Proverbs 16:32

Proverbs 16:32
He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty,
and he that ruleth his spirit, than he that taketh a city.
This scripture may be one of the greatest verses in Proverbs. Though there are many, Proverbs 16:32 portrays an excellent point. With control of anger, you are better than those who have conquered cities and better than those who have gained glory and might through great victories! God through Solomon tells us that. Ruling our spirits means leading lives of love, joy, peace, goodness, longsuffering, meekness, and temperance. Ruling our spirits in a godly way, not letting Satan take control and make us angry: that is ruling our spirits. A man that rules his spirit and leads a godly life is better than great conqeurors with no self control. Someone living a simple, humble, and godly life, has more riches than a man who's gained great victories in the world, but has yet to conquer his anger.
This verse is a favorite of mine because it is a great reminder for me not to get caught up with worldly pleasures and be quick to anger, but to rule my spirit and ask the Lord for that ability. It's O.K. to have power, and to be successful in this life but if we cannot conquer our spirits and emotions, what then have we gained? Nothing. :-)
